Abstract |
The authors measured the critical current density Jc of artificially grown Ge/Pb multilayers as a function of the magnetic field H perpendicular to applied perpendicular to the layers. In these layered structures Jc(Hperpendicular to) rapidly drops to a pronounced minimum at a field H*perpendicular to, then increases through a broad maximum and finally decays to zero at H c2 perpendicular to. The systematic evolution of this minimum as a function of temperature, layer thickness and pinning strength allows us to conclude that this peculiar behavior is due to a thermally driven softening of the flux line lattice which can be related either to a magnetic decoupling or a melting of the vortex structure. |

Abstract |
We report a novel magnetic-field dependence of the critical-current density Jc in artificially grown Ge/Pb superlattices. In these layered structures Jc exhibits an unexpected minimum as a function of perpendicular applied field, unlike any ever observed in other superconductor systems. The systematic evolution of this minimum as a function of layer thicknesses, temperature and pinning strength is related to either flux-lattice decoupling or melting. |

Abstract |
We have studied the critical field and irreversibility line on the magnetization of the ceramic oxide LiTi2O4. The irreversibility line scales with the critical field while the coherence length of the material changes by a factor of two. This universal behavior indicates that the origin of the irreversibility line does not depend on extrinsic factors and relies solely on the intrinsic superconducting parameters of the material. |

Abstract |
We show clear and conclusive experimental evidence for the enhancement of superconductivity in GdBa2Cu3Ox and YBa 2Cu3Ox thin films by photoexcitation. Upon laser illumination the critical temperature increases while the resistivity of the material decreases. The relaxation back to the original state is very slow, of the order of days at room temperature. The existence of this effect opens the possibility of fabricating weak-link devices with in situ tunable superconducting characteristics. |

Abstract |
We show through photoexcitation experiments carried out on YBa2Cu3Ox c-axis oriented films that photoinduced phenomena are not restricted to insulating samples. Superconducting films with critical temperatures varying between 2 K and 40 K show a clear enhancement of the superconducting transition after illumination. The increase in Tc is accompanied by a corresponding decrease in the resistivity ?, and an increase in the Hall coefficient RH, indicative of an increased carrier density. Furthermore, the carrier mobility is also affected by illumination. |

Abstract |
The photoinduced enhancement of superconductivity in RBa2Cu3Ox (R=rare earth or yttrium) and PryR1-yBa2Cu3Ox was explored through temperature-dependent resistivity, Hall coefficient and mobility, and x-ray diffraction measurements. The increases in Tc are enhanced near the metal-insulator transition, although photoinduced changes always exist in oxygendeficient samples. Several explanations, including intergrain Josephson coupling, photoassisted oxygen ordering, and the trapping of photogenerated electrons in oxygen vacancies, are discussed. |

Abstract |
We have invesitgated several superconducting properties of oxygen defiecient YBa2Cu3Ox thin films, with oxygen contents ranging from x = 6.55 to x = 7. By means of torque magnetometry, the temperature dependence of the superconducting current dendity js and relaxation rate of the magnetization Q is measured in an (almost perpendicular) applied magnetic induction of 0.6 T. As the oxygen content is reduced, js decreases, whereas Q increases. Both properties are influenced by the decreased dpoing level as well as the enhanced anisotropy of oxygen depleted YBa2Cu3Ox. Using the Generalixed Inversion Scheme derived by Schnak et al. we obtain the current dependence of the activation energy U(f). We show that U(j) is lowered when the oxygen content is reduced. |

Abstract |
A universal relation cot?H??{variant}/RHB = ?T2 + C for the Hall angle ?H has been experimentally observed served in a wide variety of high-Tc systems. In contrast to the linear temperature dependence of the resistivity ?{variant} or the inverse Hall coefficient R-1H, the T2-dependence of cot?H remains valid in under- and overdoped systems. We present a systematic study of cot?H(T) in oxygen deficient epitaxial YBa2Cu3Ox thin films. We find evidence for a linear relation between ?, the slope of cot?H versus T2, and the carrier concentration. Moreover, we find a steep increase in the intercept C = cot?H (T = 0) below x ? 6.6. |
