Title Softening of the flux line lattice in Ge/Pb multilayers Type Journal Article
Year 1992 Publication Superconductor Science and Technology Abbreviated Journal
Volume 5 Issue 1S Pages
Keywords
Abstract (up) The authors measured the critical current density Jc of artificially grown Ge/Pb multilayers as a function of the magnetic field H perpendicular to applied perpendicular to the layers. In these layered structures Jc(Hperpendicular to) rapidly drops to a pronounced minimum at a field H*perpendicular to, then increases through a broad maximum and finally decays to zero at H c2 perpendicular to. The systematic evolution of this minimum as a function of temperature, layer thickness and pinning strength allows us to conclude that this peculiar behavior is due to a thermally driven softening of the flux line lattice which can be related either to a magnetic decoupling or a melting of the vortex structure.

Title YBa2Cu3Ox: A natural multilayer system with tunable anisotropy Type Journal Article

Abstract (up) The authors report on magnetoresistivity rho ab( theta ,H,T) measurements below Tc in YBa2Cu3Oxn films with differing oxygen content x. The observed variations in the angular and field dependence of rho ab with reduced x indicate a gradual dimensional crossover from an anisotropic 3D to a quasi-2D behaviour. The increasing anisotropy is related to a decrease of the coupling between the Cu2O2 bilayers when oxygen is removed from the Cu1Ox chain-planes.

Abstract (up) The critical current jc and the pinning energy Uc have been determined for three types of yttrium-based superconducting films from current js and dynamic relaxation Q=d lnjs/d ln(dB/dt) data by means of the generalized inversion scheme. For B<2 T and T<80 K the temperature dependence of jc and Uc for all films is found to be in excellent agreement with a model of single vortices pinned by randomly distributed weak pinning centers via spatial fluctuations of the charge carrier mean free path. Pinning due to spatial fluctuations of Tc is not observed.

Abstract (up) The illumination of PryGd1-yBa2Cu 3Ox semiconducting and superconducting thin films increases their critical temperatures and decreases their normal state resistivities if and only if the films are oxygen deficient. Moreover, these changes are enhanced near the Pr-induced metal-insulator transition. Light also causes a contraction of the c-axis in YBa2Cu3Ox which is correlated with the observed photoinduced resistivity changes. These changes are similar to those observed when oxygen-deficient YBa 2Cu3Ox is enriched with oxygen or annealed at room temperature after quenching from high temperatures.

Abstract (up) The influence of oxygen concentration on the irreversibility line and critical current of polycrystalline YBa2Cu3Ox was determined using field and zero-field cooled magnetic measurements and magnetic hysteresis data. Although the field dependence of Tirr(H) is unchanged, the irreversibility line shifts to lower temperatures for decreasing oxygen content and the critical current density is strongly reduced.

Abstract (up) The magnetic moment relaxation in polycrystalline YBa2Cu3Oxmaterial has been studied using zero-field-cooled measurements. The temperature dependence of the relaxation rate shows a field-dependent maximum. When the oxygen content is reduced, the maximum shifts towards lower temperatures. This shift is directly related to a decrease of the intragrain critical current density in the oxygen-deficient material, inducing a decrease of the field H* for complete flux penetration. The characteristic activation energies for depinning in the oxygen-deficient material are below 20 meV.

Keywords photoconduction; Superconductivity; thin films; Copper oxides; Hall effect; Order disorder transitions; Radiation effects; Superconductivity; X ray analysis; Josephson coupling; Oxide superconductors; Yttrium barium cuprates; High temperature superconductors
Abstract (up) The photoinduced enhancement of superconductivity in RBa2Cu3Ox (R=rare earth or yttrium) and PryR1-yBa2Cu3Ox was explored through temperature-dependent resistivity, Hall coefficient and mobility, and x-ray diffraction measurements. The increases in Tc are enhanced near the metal-insulator transition, although photoinduced changes always exist in oxygendeficient samples. Several explanations, including intergrain Josephson coupling, photoassisted oxygen ordering, and the trapping of photogenerated electrons in oxygen vacancies, are discussed.

Title Growth of particle-free YBa2Cu3O7 films by off-axis sputtering Type Journal Article

Abstract (up) The preparation of good YBa2Cu3O7 thin films is often hindered by the production of non-stoichiometric particles which degrade the superconducting properties of the layer. A systematic study of films prepared by off-axis single target magnetron sputtering shows that the presence of copper-rich particles dramatically decreases the critical current density but does not affect the critical temperature. The formation of these particles can be avoided by carefully adjusting the position of the substrate with respect to the target. Films without off-stoichiometric particles have excellent superconducting properties.

Abstract (up) We describe a simple method based on the oxygen pressure-temperature phase diagram to prepare oxygen deficient YBa2Cu3Ox thin films. Systematic critical temperature and x-ray diffraction experiments clearly show that films with different oxygen contents (6.6?x?7) are obtained in a controlled, reproducible, and reversible way.
