Abstract |
Y[Fe(CN)6]·4H2O has been synthesized and characterized. The crystal structure was refined by Rietveld analysis using X-ray powder diffraction data. Y[Fe(CN)6]·4H2O crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system, space group Cmcm. Y3+ ion is eight-coordinated forming a bicapped distorted trigonal prism YN6O2. Fe3+ ion is six-coordinated in the form of an irregular octahedra FeC6 group and cyanide linkages between YN6O2 and FeC6 groups build an infinite polymeric array. The vibrational spectrum shows two bands corresponding to antisymmetric and symmetric stretching 12C14N in the CN stretching region. These bands are accompanied by four weak isotopic bands at lower frequency due to the presence of 13C and 15N in relative natural abundance. The HOH bending band split into three bands around 1600 cm−1 due to the presence of two kinds of water molecules in the structure. The thermal decomposition has been followed by thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis, IR spectroscopy and powder XRD. The size and morphology of the complex and its thermal decomposition products were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy. The magnetic measurements confirm that Y[Fe(CN)6]·4H2O shows an antiferromagnetic order at low temperatures. |

Abstract |
Abstract
We study the growth, stacking and superconducting properties of Nb and B thin films and superlattices. The interest in these resides in their possible use in transition edge neutron sensors. The samples were grown by magnetron sputtering over Si (100) substrates. The X-ray diffraction patterns for all Nb containing samples show a Nb (110) preferential orientation. From the low-angle X-ray reflectivity we obtain information on the superlattice structure. The superconducting transition temperatures of the superlattices, obtained from the temperature dependence of the magnetization, are higher than those of single Nb films of similar thickness. The temperature dependence of the perpendicular and parallel upper critical fields indicate that the superlattices behave as an array of decoupled superconducting Nb layers. |

Abstract |
Thin films of Cu-26.9 at.% Al-5.5 at.% Ni were grown by dc magnetron sputtering from the alloy target previously melted in an induction furnace. The films were grown either on glass or (100)Si substrates at room temperature. The films, of approximately 3 μm thickness, were peeled off from the substrate for further studies. The structures and microstructures of the as grown films were analysed by transmission electron microscopy. A nanometric mixture of BCC and 2H phases was found irrespective of the substrate. The shape memory effect was not observed for this structural state. After an annealing at 1023 K for 3600s in He or Ar flux, followed by quenching to room temperature, the films were found to be in a martensitic state. Mainly the 18R structure was observed. At this stage the films were mechanically deformed at room temperature and then heated up to 373 K. A good shape recovery was observed to take place in a temperature range between 334 and 360 K. Abstract |
Superconducting GdBa2CU3O7 thin films were grown by dc magnetron sputtering on Y1-xPrxBa2CU3O7 superconducting bulk single crystals. We optimized the in plane lattice matching with the Pr concentration. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction and electrical transport experiments. Magnetization hysteresis loops show high values of the critical currents for the films. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. |

Abstract |
We have studied the electrical resistivity and Hall effect in the dissipative regime of Nb films with periodic rectangular arrays of Ni and Co submicrometric dots. Samples with different orientations of the pinning arrays respect to the applied current direction where studied. The even parity in magnetic field of the Hall effect signals a guided motion of the vortices. Possible origins for the vortex channeling are discussed. |
