Title Superconductivity under pressure and low temperature specific heat of ThPr alloys Type Journal Article
Year 1982 Publication Solid State Communications Abbreviated Journal Solid State Commun.
Volume 43 Issue 12 Pages 925-931
Keywords
Abstract Measurements of superconducting transition temperature under pressure and low temperature specific heat are presented for ThPr alloys. At 18.2 kbar the normal- to superconducting-state phase boundary extends beyond 50 at.% Pr. This system is discussed in terms of a non-magnetic singlet ground state for the Pr3+ ions due to crystal field splitting. A splitting scheme which varies with Pr concentration is proposed.

Title Low temperature specific heat of ThU Type Journal Article
Year 1972 Publication Solid State Communications Abbreviated Journal Solid State Commun.
Volume 10 Issue 5 Pages 459
Keywords
Abstract The low temperature specific heat of the weakly magnetic system Image U has been measured in both the normal and superconducting states. U impurities are found to enhanve the normal state electronic specific heat coefficient γ at an unusually large rate of 4.85 ± 0.50 mJ/mole °K2 at. % U. The specific heat jump at the superconducting transition for an alloy of composition 0.075 at. % U follows the BCS law of corresponding states suggesting that the system Image U is essentially non-magnetic at superconducting temperatures.

Title Calorimetric study of the magnetization of Ce impurities in superconducting Th-Y and Th-Sc alloys Type Journal Article
Year 1978 Publication Journal of Low Temperature Physics Abbreviated Journal J. Low Temp. Phys.
Volume 30 Issue 5-6 Pages 729-737
Keywords
Abstract Specific heat measurements are reported in detail for the Ce impurity in the superconducting matrix systems Th65Sc35Ce, Th80Y20Ce, and Th65Y35Ce. The variation of the specific heat jump DeltaC at the superconducting transition temperature T c is indicative of the magnetic nature of an impurity. For Th65Y35Ce a departure is found from the BCS law of corresponding states predicted for a nonmagnetic impurity. This departure is correlated with that observed for (La, Th)Ce systems and related to DeltaT c/n (initial slope of T c vs. n) and Ce effective size (implied by lattice parameter data).

Title Specific heat of superconducting Th, Sc and Th, Y alloys with Ce Type Journal Article
Year 1975 Publication Solid State Communications Abbreviated Journal Solid State Commun.
Volume 17 Issue 12 Pages 1581-1583
Keywords
Abstract Measurements of the specific heat jump ΔC at the superconducting critical temperature Tc on (Image )Ce and (Image )Ce Ce impurity, solid solution alloy systems indicate that the former systems obey the BCS law of corresponding states (LCS) characteristic of superconductors with non-magnetic impurities while the latter systems present deviations from the LCS linear relation between reduced parameters which are attributed to the development of localized moments at the Ce ions as the Y concentration increases.

Title Evidence for 4f-instability of dilute terbium in thorium Type Journal Article
Year 1987 Publication Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials Abbreviated Journal J. Magn. Magn. Mater.
Volume 63-64 Issue Pages 597-599
Keywords
Abstract We have measured the specific heat of dilute Th1?xTbx alloys (0.44 < x < 2.15 a/o), which rises linearly between 0.4 and 0.9 K with a slope of ?C/T ? 450 mJ/K2molTb followed by a Schottky anomaly with a maximum near 3.8 K. The high temperature ??T product was found to be 4% lower than that of Tb3+. The resistivity shows no minimum at low temperatures. Discussion is made in terms of non-integral valence of Tb.

Title LOW-TEMPERATURE SPECIFIC-HEAT OF THE TH-7(FE,CO,NI)(3) PSEUDOBINARY SUPERCONDUCTORS Type Journal Article
Year 1994 Publication PHYSICA C Abbreviated Journal
Volume 230 Issue 1-2 Pages 159-162
Keywords
Abstract Low-temperature specific heat (C-p) of the superconducting Th-7(Fe1-xCox)(3) and Th-7(Fe1-xNix)(3) intermetallic compounds is reported. In the normal state, the Sommerfeld coefficient (y), the Debye temperature and the electron-phonon coupling constant are found to be very similar to those of the pure Th. The superconducting phase exhibits a BCS-type behavior, as it is indicated by the exponential Cp vs. T dependence, and the Delta Cp/yT(c), = 1.48 ratio, where Delta Cp is the Cp(T)jump at the transition temperature (T-c).
