Abstract |
Measurements of the thermal and electrical conductivities of a polycrystalline indium sample of very high purity have been performed between 1.5 and 4.2°K and in the presence of longitudinal magnetic fields up to 15 000 Oe. It was found that, within the experimental error, the electrical and thermal Kohler's rules were satisfied, the functional forms for the two being quite similar. The expression for the resistivity as a function of T for the normal state and in zero magnetic field are in good agreement with theory. The Lorenz number obtained by extrapolating to T=0 gives a very high value compared with the theoretical one. Measurements of the thermal conductivity for the superconducting state, in the same temperature range, have been made. The thermal-resistivity ratio Wn / Ws as a function of the reduced temperature does not agree with the results of Kadanoff and Martin. |

Abstract |
Experimental measurements of the electrical magnetoresistivity of high purity Indium at low temperatures have been performed and clearly indicate that:
1. (a) A generalized Kohler's rule can be used to describe all experiments.
2. (b) A reliable method is therefore obtained for extrapolating the zero magnetic field resistivity to temperatures below the superconducting transition temperature.
3. (c) Clear-cut and reliable data show that no T2 dependence of the resistance is found; therefore no evidence of electron-electron interaction appears, contrary to information previously reported in the literature. |

Abstract |
The low temperature specific heat of the weakly magnetic system Image U has been measured in both the normal and superconducting states. U impurities are found to enhanve the normal state electronic specific heat coefficient γ at an unusually large rate of 4.85 ± 0.50 mJ/mole °K2 at. % U. The specific heat jump at the superconducting transition for an alloy of composition 0.075 at. % U follows the BCS law of corresponding states suggesting that the system Image U is essentially non-magnetic at superconducting temperatures. |

Abstract |
Measurements of the specific heat jump ΔC at the superconducting critical temperature Tc on (Image )Ce and (Image )Ce Ce impurity, solid solution alloy systems indicate that the former systems obey the BCS law of corresponding states (LCS) characteristic of superconductors with non-magnetic impurities while the latter systems present deviations from the LCS linear relation between reduced parameters which are attributed to the development of localized moments at the Ce ions as the Y concentration increases. |

Abstract |
Specific heat measurements are reported in detail for the Ce impurity in the superconducting matrix systems Th65Sc35Ce, Th80Y20Ce, and Th65Y35Ce. The variation of the specific heat jump DeltaC at the superconducting transition temperature T c is indicative of the magnetic nature of an impurity. For Th65Y35Ce a departure is found from the BCS law of corresponding states predicted for a nonmagnetic impurity. This departure is correlated with that observed for (La, Th)Ce systems and related to DeltaT c/n (initial slope of T c vs. n) and Ce effective size (implied by lattice parameter data). |

Abstract |
The specific heat measurements of Th---Gd alloys, with Gd concentration ranging from 0.15% to 10.8% and temperatures between 0.4 and 8 K, are reported. The characteristic spin glass specific heat enhancement and its maximum was found linearly proportional to Gd concentration. At low temperatures a T2 dependence of the specific heat was observed and the entropy associated with the magnetic ordering was the 70% of the expected value for the spin S = 7/2. |
