Abstract | We discuss the changes in transport and superconducting properties of amorphous Zr70Cu30, induced by thermal relaxation The experimental results are used to investigate the relation between the microscopic parameters and the observed physical properties It is shown that the density of eletronic states determines the shift Tc as well as the variation of the electrical resistivity It is necessary to assume strong hybridization between s and d bands to understand the eletrodynamic response of the superconductor (Author) |

Abstract | We study the superconducting and magnetic behaviour of Nb/Co superlattices, for superconducting Nb layer thickness of 44 nm and Co layer thickness less than 1 nm. In this limit no ferromagnetism is observed for Co. The superlattice behaves as independent superconducting Nb layers. We obtain the penetration depth and superconducting gap of the material, and analyze the results in terms of microscopic models and theories. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract | The critical temperatureT cof Nb/Al multilayers decreases as the total sample thicknessd Tis decreased while the thickness of each Nb and Al layer is kept constant. To understand this behavior, models based on the proximity effect and on weak two-dimensional (2D) localization are employed. The latter uses a characteristic length, the thermal diffusion length, in relation tod Tto obtain 2D behavior and leads to a reasonable explanation ofT c(d T). It is also found that the slope atT c(d T) of the critical magnetic field perpendicular to the layers is independent ofd Twhen the Nb and Al layer thicknesses are kept constant. The angular dependence of the critical field is also measured.

Abstract | Precise electrical resistivity measurements on very dilute non magnetic indium alloys show no doubt in a T 5 dependence on temperature between 1-4K and strong deviations from Matthiessen rule. Measurements of thermal resistivity show that the extrapolation method to obtain the data to H=0 is correct. Comparison of the results with recent theories is discussed.

Abstract | Electrical ( rho ) and thermal (W) resistivity measurements in very dilute In alloys between 1K and 4K show a temperature dependence expressed by rho = rho 0+ beta T5 and WT=(WT)0+AT3+BT5. The BT5 term in the thermal resistivity is due to a contribution from a 'diffusion-like process' of electrons over the Fermi surface, as is the one that describes the temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity. This claim is supported by the experimental fact that the Lorenz number defined as L= beta /B coincides with the value given by L= rho 0/(WT)0 which in turn agrees with the free electron value within 15%.

Abstract | It is shown that small variations of oxygen content in La1.8Sr0.2CuO4−δ can be used to control the reversible and irreversible magnetization temperature dependence of the superconducting state. A grain bond model is appropriate to describe the superconducting response of the ceramics. The study of the temperature dependence of the magnetization and the resistive transition temperature, in a slightly deoxygenated sample, show that the reversible superconducting state is strongly correlated to superconducting percolation. Deoxygenation has been shown to be an excellent technique to study the time evolution of metastable states induced by currents in the bonds and or in the grains. It is shown that superconducting grains are not correlated to ceramic grains.

Abstract | Transport measurements in YBa2Cu3O7 single crystals using a modification of the d.c. flux transformer configuration are reported. We show that, for applied magnetic fields in the crystallographic c direction, the vortex correlation length in this direction is reduced to values smaller than the thickness of the sample. The reduction can be induced either by thermal disorder (linear response) or by flux cutting after the vortices reach a critical velocity (nonlinear response). The results show that, in the transition from a vortex-glass state to a vortex-liquid state, the vortices are effectively three dimensional in character. A two-dimensional regime is induced at higher temperatures well inside the reversibility region.

Abstract | Multiterminal measurements using experimental technique on twinned and untwinned YBa2Cu3O7-? crystals were presented. Inhomogeneous current distribution acting upon an uncorrelated vortex system showed that the dissipation of voltage at the top was larger than at the bottom. The behavior of the current voltage curves showed that the result Vtop = Vbot was a consequence of the limited voltage sensitivity.

Abstract | We have measured the angular dependence of the vortex velocity correlation temperature Tth(H) in twinned YBa2Cu3O7-? single crystals. The data show that the c-axis correlated vortex liquid phase exists up to angles much larger than expected within a single vortex pinning picture. Despite this, the second-order solid-liquid glass transition is shown to be restricted only to external magnetic fields applied within a few degrees from the c-axis direction.
