Title Flux-lattice melting, anisotropy, and the role of interlayer coupling in Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O single crystals Type Journal Article

Abstract We have used the high-Q mechanical-oscillator technique to probe the vortex-lattice structure in high-quality Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O single crystals over a wide range of magnetic fields (200 Oe to 40 kOe), and relative orientations θ between the magnetic field and the crystalline c^ axis. In addition to the large softening and dissipation peak previously observed and interpreted as due to flux-lattice melting, another distinctly different peak at higher temperatures is seen. The temperatures where the dissipation peaks take place are solely defined by the parallel component of the field cosθ, while the restoring force on the oscillator is due to both field components. We suggest that the two peaks are due to the softening of interplanar coupling at the low-temperature peak, and melting or depinning of the two-dimensional pancake vortices at the higher-temperature peak.

Title Logarithmic-to-nonlogarithmic flux-creep transition and magnetic-flux hardening in Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O superconducting ceramics Type Journal Article
Year 1989 Publication Physical Review B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. B

Keywords
Abstract A sharp temperature- and field-dependent transition from a logarithmic to a nonlogarithmic flux-creep behavior has been found in Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O superconductors. The transition is not followed by any noticeable change in the magnetization. However, vibrating-reed measurements show that it coincides with a strong hardening of the magnetic structure. The transition occurs at fields and temperatures well below the reversibility line. The possible relation to the recently proposed flux lattice melting is discussed.

Abstract The critical-current curves of amorphous samples which exhibit collective flux pinning have been analyzed, and it was found that the nonlinear part can be fitted by an expression of the form V(I)[(I-IK)/IK]. This form, which could be due to critical behavior, is consistent with an interpretation of the unpinning of vortices in the collective regime as a phase transition between the static flux-line lattice (FLL) and the FLL in steady-state movement as has been proposed by Fisher.

Abstract We present a study of the magnetic behaviour of superconducting/ferromagnetic superlattices, both for metallic and perovskite based systems. In the first case we find that the response is determined by the ferromagnetic layer regime. If these layers are very thin, no ferromagnetism is observed, but the superconducting layers are decoupled, and the superlattice behaves as a stack of independent superconducting films. For thicker ferromagnetic films, ferromagnetism is established and the effective field resulting from the superposition of stray and applied fields dominates the superconducting response of the superlattice. For the perovskite based superlattices, the physical properties are more affected by interface disorder. In this case we have found that the behaviour can be interpeted as charge carrier transfer between both materials, inducing a change in the magnetic character of the manganite. Title Coincidence of Vortex-Lattice Melting and Loss of Vortex Correlation along the c Direction in Untwinned YBa2Cu3O7-δ Single Crystals Type Journal Article

Abstract We report on transport measurements using the dc flux transformer configuration in clean and twinned single crystals of YBa2Cu3O7-δ. We show that correlated disorder changes not only the order of the solid-liquid phase transition but also the nature of the vortices in the liquid state. In clean crystals, melting is shown to take place between a solid of vortex lines and a liquid with no correlation in the direction of the magnetic field.

Abstract We have measured the magnetic-flux expulsion of a superconducting superlattice and related it to the Meissner penetration depth. The temperature dependence of the penetration depth is in quantitative agreement with theoretical expectation based on mean-field theory. The zero-temperature penetration depth is found in excellent, quantitative agreement without adjustable parameters with theoretical predictions for dirty superconductors.

Abstract We report an anomalous reversible temperature dependence of the magnetization of amorphous type-II superconductors. The experimental results were obtained studying the vortex pinning in samples with very low vortex concentration. The anomaly is shown to be a consequence of the lack of flux quantization in finite samples.
