Abstract |
In this paper we present an analysis of the response of the vortices in YBa2Cu3O7-delta to different configurations of applied driving forces. The use of inhomogeneous current allows us to induce vortex cutting. We determine the maximum current injected in different electrical contact distributions which preserves vortex integrity, and we show that vortex cutting cannot be explained by a single vortex picture. Abstract |
We report results of transverse AC magnetic permeability in the linear regime and DC magnetization loops for optimally doped and oxygen overdoped samples of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+delta The data cover the low temperature (T < 25K) and low held (H-a < 1000 Oe) region of the magnetic (H-a-T) phase diagram. In optimally doped as well as in overdoped samples a crossover to a O-dimensional pinning regime (Larkin length, L-C(C), shorter than the inter-plane CuO2 distance) is observed at a characteristic temperature Too for all investigated fields. The order-disorder transition, identified by the second peak in magnetization and a non monotonous field dependence of the AC penetration depth, is quenched below T-0D. |

Abstract |
The response of the vortex structure in ceramic samples of Bi4Ca2Sr4Cu4O16+y has been measured by means of a vibrating reed technique in magnetic fields below 0.2 T. An anomally in the response of the reed is seen at temperatures of around 30 to 40 K, well below the critical temperature, indicating a transition similar to that attributed to a melting of the Flux Line Lattice. There is a shift in the temperature at which the anomaly is detected when one increases the driving force on the reed, while the dissipation shows a maximum associated to the transition which scales with the square of the applied magnetic field. Comparison with magnetization measurements shows that there is non-zero critical current at the same temperature where the anomalous behaviour is detected with our technique. |

Abstract |
A sharp temperature and field dependent transition from a logarithmic to a non-logarithmic flux creep behavior has been found in BiSrCaCuO superconductors. The transition is not followed by any noticeable change in the magnetization. However, vibrating reed measurements show that it coincides with a strong hardening of the magnetic structure. The transition occurs at fields and temperatures well below the reversibility line. The possible relation to the recently proposed flux lattice melting is discussed. |

Abstract |
Magnetization measurements in superconductor/ferromagnet Nb/Co superlattices show a complex behavior as a function of temperature, applied field, and sample history. Based on a simple model, it is shown that this behavior is due to an interplay between the superconductor magnetization temperature dependence, the ferromagnet magnetization time dependence, and the stray fields of both materials. It is also shown that the magnetic state of the Co layers is modified by the Nb superconducting response, implying that the problem of a superconductor/ferromagnetic heterogeneous sample has to be solved in a self-consistent manner. |

Abstract |
A study of the electromagnetic response of superconductor/ferromagnet Nb/Co superlattices is presented. The dc magnetization is measured as a function of Co layer thickness, applied field H-a, and temperature. For very thin Co layers, no ferromagnetism is detected and the observed response is essentially that of a collection of uncoupled Nb layers. When the Co layer is thick enough for ferromagnetism to be established, prior to the field-cooled magnetization measurements, the Co layers are magnetically saturated in the parallel or antiparallel directions to H-a. In this case, the magnetic response of the otherwise uncoupled Nb layers is found to depend on both H-a and the stray fields. |

Abstract |
We present a study of the magnetic behaviour of superconducting/ferromagnetic superlattices, both for metallic and perovskite based systems. In the first case we find that the response is determined by the ferromagnetic layer regime. If these layers are very thin, no ferromagnetism is observed, but the superconducting layers are decoupled, and the superlattice behaves as a stack of independent superconducting films. For thicker ferromagnetic films, ferromagnetism is established and the effective field resulting from the superposition of stray and applied fields dominates the superconducting response of the superlattice. For the perovskite based superlattices, the physical properties are more affected by interface disorder. In this case we have found that the behaviour can be interpeted as charge carrier transfer between both materials, inducing a change in the magnetic character of the manganite.
