Abstract |
The response of the vortex structure in ceramic samples of Bi4Ca2Sr4Cu4O16+y has been measured by means of a vibrating reed technique in magnetic fields below 0.2 T. An anomally in the response of the reed is seen at temperatures of around 30 to 40 K, well below the critical temperature, indicating a transition similar to that attributed to a melting of the Flux Line Lattice. There is a shift in the temperature at which the anomaly is detected when one increases the driving force on the reed, while the dissipation shows a maximum associated to the transition which scales with the square of the applied magnetic field. Comparison with magnetization measurements shows that there is non-zero critical current at the same temperature where the anomalous behaviour is detected with our technique. |

Abstract |
Transport measurements in the mixed state of oxygen-deficient YBa2Cu3O7−δ single crystals using the flux transformer configuration show that the flux liquid changes with increasing anisotropy from strongly correlated to uncorrelated in the field direction. For intermediate coupling, the current inducing loss of vortex correlation has a maximum near the irreversibility temperature. Thus, an effective softening of vortex lines with decreasing temperature is detected. We propose a simple model that accounts for this behavior by including the effects of the pinning potential on the dynamics of vortices. |

Abstract |
The linear temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity has been taken to be one of the characteristic features of the ceramic superconductors. Measurements of the electrical resistance of the LaSrCuO system in a wide temperature range show that the previous statement is only an approximation valid for some values of the Sr concentration. |

Abstract |
We have performed electrical resistivity measurements on the superconductor La1.8Sr0.2CuO4- over a wide range of temperatures and oxygen concentration. The results provide experimental evidence for a transition from a metallic behavior at high temperatures to a variable-range hopping regime at low temperatures. The transition is controlled by the oxygen content. Correlation between both regimes is also shown. |

Abstract |
We present transport measurements on YBCO single crystals in the vortex liquid regime using the DC flux transformer geometry. We show that the data are inconsistent with the material being an anisotropic, local conductor. The results provided evidence for non-local transport which indicate that there can be correlated vortex motion over macroscopic distances in this system. We have shown that this correlated vortex motion can be destroyed by either thermal fluctuations or the applications of large driving forces. |

Abstract |
Transport measurements in the mixed state of YBa2Cu3O7 single crystals using the “DC flux transformer” configuration show that the glass-liquid phase transition at the irreversibility line, TI(H), behaves as a three dimensional vortex phase transition. These results together with resistance measurements in the c direction show that the vortex correlation across the sample is destroyed at a temperature Tth(H), higher than TI(H). The sample thickness dependence of Tth(H) suggest that in the real thermodynamic phase transition (infinite sample), the long range correlation in the ab plane as well in the c direction is lost at the single temperature TI(H). |

Abstract |
By means of thermal heat treatment of amorphous Zr70Cu30 it is shown that the induced decrease in critical temperature is followed by a reduction in the electronic density of states of the same magnitude as that obtained by changing the Cu concentration. This result indicates that the density of states is the fundamental microscopic parameter determining the superconducting behavior. |

Abstract |
We found a novel dimensional transition in the vortex lattice of a finite-sized superconductor. The low-field dependence (with field applied parallel to the film plane) of the magnetization exhibits two maxima, which signal the transition from one to two dimensions. In one dimension the vortices line up along the film, and with increasing field their arrangement changes into a two-dimensional array due to the competition between vortex-surface and vortex-vortex repulsion. Agreement is found with no adjustable parameter calculations using a priori known surface-barrier and vortex-repulsion effects. |

Abstract |
Magnetic hysteresis and transverse ac permeability measurements in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+delta allow a comparative analysis of the critical current with the elastic response of vortex structures, in equilibrium with their pinning potential, in the field and temperature region where the second peak is detected. This study provides strong evidence that the second peak has its origin in changes of the elastic equilibrium properties of the vortex structures. |

Abstract |
When a type-I superconductor with a surface nucleation field Hc3(T)>Hc(T) (thermodynamic critical field) is thermally cycled in an axially applied magnetic field H0 between the temperatures T(Hc3) and about T(Hc), experiments show that the magnetization changes reversibly. The latter is diamagnetic near T(Hc3) but can be paramagnetic just above T(Hc). This behavior is explained by assuming that the fluxoid quantum number b is fixed at the transition from the normal to the superconducting state and retained at lower temperatures. The value of b is determined almost entirely by the flux at the transition which is enclosed by a contour located at a distance ξ1.7 from the surface inside the cylinder (ξ is the coherence length). The temperature variation of the order parameter f at the surface of the cylinder, the magnetization m, and the temperature at which m=0 for f≠0 are calculated for R>>ξ. Conservation of the fluxoid quantum number, while T is varied causes the two opposing surface currents to become imbalanced. This is the source of the observed para- and diamagnetism. |
