Abstract |
We have performed electrical resistivity measurements on the superconductor La1.8Sr0.2CuO4- over a wide range of temperatures and oxygen concentration. The results provide experimental evidence for a transition from a metallic behavior at high temperatures to a variable-range hopping regime at low temperatures. The transition is controlled by the oxygen content. Correlation between both regimes is also shown. |

Abstract |
A model is proposed to account for the large increase in the measured penetration depth of superconducting, amorphous La70Cu30 when the specimens are annealed sufficiently long near, but below, the crystallization temperature. It is suggested that a metallurgical phase separation occurs with domain dimensions in the submicrometer range. Penetration depth measurements as a function of temperature in a weak magnetic field are a useful tool to detect changes in phase separation in high-K materials. |

Abstract |
The linear temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity has been taken to be one of the characteristic features of the ceramic superconductors. Measurements of the electrical resistance of the LaSrCuO system in a wide temperature range show that the previous statement is only an approximation valid for some values of the Sr concentration. |

Abstract |
A nonconventional technique for the measurement of magnetic relaxation in superconducting films at short times (similar to 10(-5) s) is described. This technique combines the application of a pulsed magnetic field and a synchronized high-energy pulsed laser. Remanent magnetic relaxation in (Y;Gd)Ba2Cu3O7-delta thin films is reported over five decades time at reduced temperatures above 0.8. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics. |

Abstract |
We demonstrate experimentally that when the vortex correlation length in the liquid state becomes of the order of the sample thickness, size effects dominate the transport properties of the macroscopic vortex structures, implying a nonlocal response in the transformer experiments. |

Abstract |
We report on transport measurements in the mixed state of YBa2Cu3O7 single crystals using the dc flux transformer geometry. In the vortex fluid regime we have observed the onset of a nonlocal conductivity. At lower temperatures, close to but above the phase transition temperature the vortices become effectively three dimensional in character. This is in sharp contrast to recent flux transformer experiments on Bi2Sr2CaCu2O which have failed to see a nonlocal conductivity, confirming the two-dimensional character at high temperatures of the vortices in that system. These observations suggest that in a finite temperature interval, the vortex state in YBa2Cu3O7 is a line liquid. |

Abstract |
We report transport measurements in the mixed state of single crystals of Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox using a modified version of the dc flux transformer geometry pioneered by Giaever in low-Tc materials. We find that over a wide range of the phase diagram the vortices are effectively two dimensional in character. Our results suggest that vortex cutting is an efficient process and that it is unlikely that the vortices are strongly entangled in this region of the phase diagram. |

Abstract |
We report results of transverse AC magnetic permeability in the linear regime and DC magnetization loops for optimally doped and oxygen overdoped samples of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+delta The data cover the low temperature (T < 25K) and low held (H-a < 1000 Oe) region of the magnetic (H-a-T) phase diagram. In optimally doped as well as in overdoped samples a crossover to a O-dimensional pinning regime (Larkin length, L-C(C), shorter than the inter-plane CuO2 distance) is observed at a characteristic temperature Too for all investigated fields. The order-disorder transition, identified by the second peak in magnetization and a non monotonous field dependence of the AC penetration depth, is quenched below T-0D. |

Abstract |
We make a comparative study between the ab plane's dc critical current and the ac transverse magnetic permeability μ(perpendicular to) in the Campbell limit for optimally doped and overdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+delta samples. We focus attention on the low-temperature region [T/T-c(0) < 0.25], where the transition to the zero-dimensional Larkin limit is detected by the critical current as well as by a rapid change of the Labusch parameter with temperature. The order-disorder transition, characterized by the second peak in magnetization, disappears in the presence of this zero-dimensional pinning regime. |

Abstract |
We have measured the magnetic-flux expulsion of a superconducting superlattice and related it to the Meissner penetration depth. The temperature dependence of the penetration depth is in quantitative agreement with theoretical expectation based on mean-field theory. The zero-temperature penetration depth is found in excellent, quantitative agreement without adjustable parameters with theoretical predictions for dirty superconductors. |
