Title (up) Percolation and glass behavior in ceramic superconductors: oxygen effects Type Journal Article
Year 1989 Publication Modern Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Mod. Phys. Lett. B
Volume 3 Issue 2 Pages 173-181
Keywords
Abstract It is shown that small variations of oxygen content in La1.8Sr0.2CuO4−δ can be used to control the reversible and irreversible magnetization temperature dependence of the superconducting state. A grain bond model is appropriate to describe the superconducting response of the ceramics. The study of the temperature dependence of the magnetization and the resistive transition temperature, in a slightly deoxygenated sample, show that the reversible superconducting state is strongly correlated to superconducting percolation. Deoxygenation has been shown to be an excellent technique to study the time evolution of metastable states induced by currents in the bonds and or in the grains. It is shown that superconducting grains are not correlated to ceramic grains.

Title (up) Phase diagram and superconductive properties of splat-cooled CuxLa1-x Type Journal Article
Year 1980 Publication Physical Review B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. B
Volume 21 Issue 7 Pages 2804-2808
Keywords
Abstract The phase diagram of nonequilibrium, splat-cooled CuxLa1-x is interpreted by means of superconductive-transition and x-ray measurements. At the eutectic composition the material is shown to be in a highly disordered state. Measurements of dc resistance and ac susceptibility show that there are two different critical fields at the disordered concentration although there is a unique critical temperature.

Title (up) Phase-coherence effects in vortex transport entropy Type Journal Article
Year 2008 Publication PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS Abbreviated Journal
Volume 101 Issue 11 Pages 117002
Keywords
Abstract Nernst and electrical resistivity measurements in superconducting YBa2Cu3O7-delta and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+delta with and without columnar defects show a distinctive thermodynamics of the respective liquid vortex matter. At a field-dependent high temperature region in the H-T phase diagram, the Nernst signal is independent of structural defects in both materials. At lower temperatures, in YBa2Cu3O7-delta, defects contribute only to the vortex mobility, and the transport entropy is that of a system of vortex lines. The transition to lower temperatures in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+delta has a different origin; the maximum in the Nernst signal when decreasing temperature is not associated with transport properties but with the entropy behavior of pancake vortices in the presence of structural defects.

Title (up) Phonon thermal conductivity limited by electron scattering in amorphous Zr70Cu30 Type Journal Article
Year 1983 Publication Physical Review B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. B
Volume 27 Issue 5 Pages 3069-3072
Keywords Zr70Cu30; superconductivity; amorphous
Abstract The low-temperature thermal conductivity of amorphous Zr70Cu30 is investigated. The lattice thermal conductivity as limited by electrons in the superconducting state has been obtained at temperatures close to Tc. This has allowed for the first time the verification of the temperature dependence of the phonon conductivity as predicted by Bardeen, Rickayzen, and Tewordt. The analysis of the data in the normal and superconducting state shows that Matthiessen's rule can be used in amorphous metals to separate the different scattering processes.

Abstract We describe a new device to produce ribbons of disordered metals by ultrarapid quenching combining an arc furnace with a rotating cylinder. The characterization of samples of disordered La70 Cu30 and La76Au24 prepared using this method shows good agreement with those obtained by other authors for the same alloys.

Title (up) Sensitive Hot Wire Level Detector for Cryogenic Liquids Type Journal Article
Year 1969 Publication Review of Scientific Instruments Abbreviated Journal Rev. Sci. Instrum.
Volume 40 Issue 3 Pages 483-486
Keywords
Abstract A very simple and highly sensitive ``hot wire'' type level detector to be used with cryogenic liquids is described. The hot filament is made of tungsten wire of about 4 µ diam. The tests on the sensor were made moving the filament in and out of the quiescent surfaces of liquid helium and nitrogen. The results showed 0.006 mm sensitivity in the determination of liquid helium level and 0.002 mm sensitivity in the case of liquid nitrogen level. The sensor is assembled in such a way that it can be used without special precautions during indefinite periods of time. For the case when the full capabilities of the sensor are not necessary, a simple circuit is presented.

Title (up) Short-time magnetization in superconducting thin films Type Journal Article
Year 1998 Publication REVISTA MEXICANA DE FISICA Abbreviated Journal
Volume 44 Issue Pages 193-195
Keywords
Abstract We have investigated the magnetization in thin (Y;Gd)Ba2Cu3O7-delta superconducting films in the 100 μs time scale. Magnetic moment was measured with a non-conventional technique that combines the use of a pulsed magnetic field and a synchronized pulsed laser. Both virgin and magnetically cycled samples were examined and results are described within Bean's critical state model.

Title (up) Size dependence of the Superconducting critical temperature and fields of Nb/Al multilayers Type Journal Article
Year 1986 Publication Journal of Low Temperature Physics Abbreviated Journal J. Low Temp. Phys.
Volume 63 Issue 1-2 Pages 151-165
Keywords
Abstract The critical temperatureT cof Nb/Al multilayers decreases as the total sample thicknessd Tis decreased while the thickness of each Nb and Al layer is kept constant. To understand this behavior, models based on the proximity effect and on weak two-dimensional (2D) localization are employed. The latter uses a characteristic length, the thermal diffusion length, in relation tod Tto obtain 2D behavior and leads to a reasonable explanation ofT c(d T). It is also found that the slope atT c(d T) of the critical magnetic field perpendicular to the layers is independent ofd Twhen the Nb and Al layer thicknesses are kept constant. The angular dependence of the critical field is also measured.
