Abstract |
Measurement of the Meissner penetration depth, λ(T) were made in amorphous Zr70Cu30 samples. The results indicate that this amorphous alloy behaves as a BCS superconductor with 2Δ(0)+45 degree rulekTc = 3.8, where Δ(0) is the superconducting energy gap at T=0 and Tc the critical temperature. It is also concluded that the low energy excitation, TLS, characteristics of amorphous material does not contribute to Tc. |

Abstract |
We report transport measurements in the mixed state of single crystals of Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox using a modified version of the dc flux transformer geometry pioneered by Giaever in low-Tc materials. We find that over a wide range of the phase diagram the vortices are effectively two dimensional in character. Our results suggest that vortex cutting is an efficient process and that it is unlikely that the vortices are strongly entangled in this region of the phase diagram. |

Abstract |
We have investigated the magnetization in thin (Y;Gd)Ba2Cu3O7-delta superconducting films in the 100 μs time scale. Magnetic moment was measured with a non-conventional technique that combines the use of a pulsed magnetic field and a synchronized pulsed laser. Both virgin and magnetically cycled samples were examined and results are described within Bean's critical state model. |

Abstract |
We measured the electrical resistivity (4–300 K), superconducting critical temperature and thermal conductivity (0.5–7 K) of the amorphous metals Zr70Cu30 and La70Cu30. Heat treatments below crystallization temperature induced changes in these properties. In particular, in the first stage of the annealing of Zr70Cu30 there are systematic changes in the thermal conductivity and the critical temperature, while the electrical resistivity remains constant. We show that there is no simple correlation between the thermal conductivity processes in the low temperature and plateau regions. We also show that the thermal conductivity of as quenched La70Cu30 is typical of amorphous metals, contrary to information previously reported. |

Abstract |
We have used the high-Q mechanical-oscillator technique to probe the vortex-lattice structure in high-quality Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O single crystals over a wide range of magnetic fields (200 Oe to 40 kOe), and relative orientations θ between the magnetic field and the crystalline c^ axis. In addition to the large softening and dissipation peak previously observed and interpreted as due to flux-lattice melting, another distinctly different peak at higher temperatures is seen. The temperatures where the dissipation peaks take place are solely defined by the parallel component of the field cosθ, while the restoring force on the oscillator is due to both field components. We suggest that the two peaks are due to the softening of interplanar coupling at the low-temperature peak, and melting or depinning of the two-dimensional pancake vortices at the higher-temperature peak. |

Abstract |
A model is proposed to account for the large increase in the measured penetration depth of superconducting, amorphous La70Cu30 when the specimens are annealed sufficiently long near, but below, the crystallization temperature. It is suggested that a metallurgical phase separation occurs with domain dimensions in the submicrometer range. Penetration depth measurements as a function of temperature in a weak magnetic field are a useful tool to detect changes in phase separation in high-K materials. |

Abstract |
A very simple and highly sensitive ``hot wire'' type level detector to be used with cryogenic liquids is described. The hot filament is made of tungsten wire of about 4 µ diam. The tests on the sensor were made moving the filament in and out of the quiescent surfaces of liquid helium and nitrogen. The results showed 0.006 mm sensitivity in the determination of liquid helium level and 0.002 mm sensitivity in the case of liquid nitrogen level. The sensor is assembled in such a way that it can be used without special precautions during indefinite periods of time. For the case when the full capabilities of the sensor are not necessary, a simple circuit is presented. |

Abstract |
A sharp temperature- and field-dependent transition from a logarithmic to a nonlogarithmic flux-creep behavior has been found in Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O superconductors. The transition is not followed by any noticeable change in the magnetization. However, vibrating-reed measurements show that it coincides with a strong hardening of the magnetic structure. The transition occurs at fields and temperatures well below the reversibility line. The possible relation to the recently proposed flux lattice melting is discussed. |

Abstract |
We have performed electrical resistivity measurements on the superconductor La1.8Sr0.2CuO4- over a wide range of temperatures and oxygen concentration. The results provide experimental evidence for a transition from a metallic behavior at high temperatures to a variable-range hopping regime at low temperatures. The transition is controlled by the oxygen content. Correlation between both regimes is also shown. |
