Title (up) Crystallographic and magnetic properties of REInAu2 intermetallics Type Journal Article
Year 1985 Publication Physica B+C Abbreviated Journal
Volume 130 Issue 1–3 Pages 240-242
Keywords
Abstract Structural, thermal and magnetic studies are reported for the REInAu2 series (except Eu). Compounds with La, Ce, Pr and Nd show a phase transition from cubic to tetragonal structure. All compounds have a normal valence state magnetic behaviour, except YbInAu2 which is confirmed to be IV with a ground state with 2J + 1 = 8, and CeInAu2 which despite being magnetic has a strongly enhanced electron specific heat.

Title (up) Flux pinning in a La70Cu30 disordered system Type Journal Article
Year 1985 Publication Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids Abbreviated Journal
Volume 69 Issue 2-3 Pages 171-187
Keywords
Abstract Superconducting critical currents were measured as a function of a perpendicular applied magnetic field in disordered La70Cu30.

It is shown that the pinning force is very sensitive to inhomogeneities already present in the as-quenched samples, although these inhomogeneities have no obvious influence on other superconducting and transport properties. A simple series resistance model is used to explain the magnetic field dependence of the pinning force. A large decrease of the pinning force was obtained for the annealed samples. This behaviour is consistent with the phase separation model that explains the evolution of the superconductive penetration depth. In order to obtain a better characterization of the structural evolution with annealing of the La70Cu30 system, the behaviour of the electrical resistivity, superconducting critical temperature and differential thermal analysis were measured.

Title (up) Intermediate valence, magnetic ordering, and volume effect in the cerium-palladium system Type Journal Article
Year 1985 Publication Journal of the Less Common Metals Abbreviated Journal
Volume 111 Issue 1–2 Pages 261-264
Keywords
Abstract Crystallographic, magnetic, and heat capacity studies of the Ce-Pd system evidence the existence of the phases CePd7, CePd3, Ce3Pd5, Ce3Pd4, CePd, Ce3Pd2 and Ce7Pd3. Except for CePd7 and CePd3, the other compounds show magnetic ordering with a linear decrease of the mean atomic volume from γ-Ce to α-Pd. The fictitious volume of “magnetic CePd3” deduced from this Végard law corresponds to that of the CePd3Mx systems where magnetic ordering is observed.

Title (up) Magnetic transition in the CePd3Bx system Type Journal Article
Year 1985 Publication Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials Abbreviated Journal JMMM
Volume 47 Issue Pages 111-114
Keywords
Abstract Susceptibility, high-field magnetisation, resistivity and heat capacity data for the CePd3Bx system are reported. The observed valence transition of Ce is the first example of a transition from an IV state system to a stable magnetic 4f1 state system, whose properties are tentatively ascribed to an aleatory cooperative state, due to the inhomogeneous character of the valence transition, rather than to a Kondo effect.

Abstract From the analysis of spectroscopical data of atomic Ce, the [f(dsp)] configuration is found to be the least energetic when the metallization enthalpy is taken into account. The p-character of the band in Ce IV compounds is discussed and the p-f hybridization proposed.

Title (up) Two dimensional collective flux pinning in melt spun superconducting amorphous Zr70Cu30 Type Journal Article
Year 1985 Publication Solid State Communications Abbreviated Journal Solid State Commun.

Abstract We have measured the critical currents in melt spun amorphous Zr70Cu30 and their evolution with heat treatment. We found that the pinning forces may be interpreted in terms of the Larkin-Ovchinnikov two dimensional collective pinning theory.
