Abstract: We measure the internal friction Q-1 in YBa2Cu3O7-x and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x samples. At temperatures near 35 K for KHz frequencies we observe an attenuation peak. In the case of YBa2Cu3O7-x, assuming a thermally activated relaxation behaviour, we are able to show that it corresponds to the same process as other peaks observed at higher frequencies. For Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x this is not the case, and the origin of the peak, found in all the measured samples, remains unknown.

Abstract: We have measured the thermal conductivity of ceramic samples of TlBaCaCuO between 2 and 250 K. At high temperatures it follows a constant behaviour down to the superconducting transition temperature where a sudden increase of the thermal conductivity occurs, attributed to reduced phonon scattering by condensating electrons. At low temperatures a T2 law is observed, confirming the assumption that it is a common feature in most of the high temperature superconducting oxides. Phonon scattering against tunneling systems analogous to those found in amorphous solids can explain this behaviour.

Abstract: The tendency towards superconducting granularity with sample degradation is a common feature of oxide superconductors. We present magnetic, transport and calorimetric results in LiTi$2Ο4$ which show that the topological tendency to segregate the superconducting state into islands surrounded by thin insulating layers is related to the structure of the material rather than to a mechanism associated to high T$_C$. We emphasize that insulating samples with small Meissner fraction can have a superconducting volume fraction close to unity.

Abstract: The linear temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity has been taken to be one of the characteristic features of the ceramic superconductors. Measurements of the electrical resistance of the LaSrCuO system in a wide temperature range show that the previous statement is only an approximation valid for some values of the Sr concentration.

Abstract: We analyze the controversial thermal conductivity results on high temperature superconductors by scaling the data with material parameters to compare them to other materials with similar behaviour. We show that they have the same general features observed in amorphous and disordered crystalline materials. Possible origins of the disorder are discussed.

Abstract: The electrical resistivity of the superconductor La1.80Sr0.20Cu04-? has been measured in a wide range of temperatures as a function of oxygen and vacuum heat treatments. The resistivity changes reversibly orders of magnitude with oxygen concentration. There is no sign of saturation at high temperatures, even for samples where the resistivity is increased by heat treatment in vacuum. Using the experimental data and general arguments it is concluded that the ceramic superconductors are high ? materials in the clean limit.

Abstract: We have studied the temperature and field dependence of the magnetic susceptibility, X, on the single-ground-state Th1?nTbn system, in the 0.2 < n < 0.6 concentration range. The characteristic maximum of a spin glass transition was found at a temperature Tg, which increases linearly with the impurity concentration. As expected, the maximum of X is reduced by the increment of the applied magnetic field. The spin glass order parameter, as well as its critical exponent were evaluated by using the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick theory.

Abstract: Internal friction Q-1 and Young Modulus sound velocity vE measurements at 1 kHz in YBa2Cu3O7?x and EuBa2Cu3O7?x polycrystalline samples reveal anomalies at the superconducting transition and at not, vert, similar37 K. The anomaly in vE at not, vert, similar90 K is accompanied by an absorption peak and is in agreement with published ultrasonic measurements, suggesting a lattice deformation at the superconducting transition.

Abstract: We have measured the electrical resistivity, magnetic flux expulsion and critical fields of the new high temperature superconductor La1.8Sr0.2CuO4 after different heat treatments. Our data show that the complete flux expulsion in these samples is consistent with the presence of shielding currents induced in multiple connected structures. The magnetization measurements indicate that the lowest field where flux penetrates into the sample should not be taken to be the bulk Hcl. It is shown that the absolute value of the electrical resistivity and its temperature dependence are not correlated with the superconducting critical field and temperature. We discuss the behaviour of the superconducting parameters and their relation with the electrical resistivity.

Abstract: By annealing amorphous Zr75Rh25 prepared by melt spinning an ideal behaviour of the critical current was observed, in which the measured pinning forces are seen to follow the two dimensional Larkin-Orchivnikov theory. In the region where this theory is valid the changes in the pinning forces can be explained by the changes in the superconducting matrix and it can be assumed that the pinning centers do not change with the heat treatment.
