Abstract: Experiments were carried out to probe the underdoped insulating material by the Josephson effect. Junctions were fabricated by exploiting the capability of locally photodoping insulating RBa2Cu3O6+x (R = rare earth) material. The existence of an anomalously large proximity effect was confirmed. The critical current of the junctions was consisted with the conventional Josephson relationship.

Abstract: We have grown a-axis oriented EuBa2Cu3O7 thin films on SrTiO3 (001) substrates using a magnetron sputtering technique. In these films the CuO2 planes are aligned parallel to the substrates. The film microstructure shows microdomains. The microdomains are grains with a 90

Abstract: We present results on the Hall coefficient RH in the normal state for a GdBa2Cu3O7-?/La0.75 Sr0.25MnO3 bilayer and a La0.75Sr0.25MnO3 film grown by dc magnetron sputtering on (1 0 0) SrTiO3. We find that the electric transport on the bilayer can be qualitatively described using a simple parallel layers model. The GdBa2Cu3O7-? layer presents a carrier density approximately equal to that reported for 7 – ? = 6.85 oxygen doping. Also we observe an unexpected presence of two Hall resistivity regimes, effects that may be associated with the internal magnetic field induced on the superconducting layer by the ferromagnetic layer.

Abstract: The preparation of good YBa2Cu3O7 thin films is often hindered by the production of non-stoichiometric particles which degrade the superconducting properties of the layer. A systematic study of films prepared by off-axis single target magnetron sputtering shows that the presence of copper-rich particles dramatically decreases the critical current density but does not affect the critical temperature. The formation of these particles can be avoided by carefully adjusting the position of the substrate with respect to the target. Films without off-stoichiometric particles have excellent superconducting properties.
